One of 38 Companies Selected Worldwide as a Leader in Social Responsibility
FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (August 18, 2008) – Condé Nast Traveler has named MSC Cruises a finalist in the magazine‘s 2008 World Savers Awards. MSC Cruises is one of 38 companies selected worldwide as a leader in social responsibility in the magazine’s September issue (on newsstands Aug. 19, 2008).
Seventeen judges reviewed 142 applications and rated how applicants exercise social responsibility in five key areas: poverty alleviation, cultural and/or environmental preservation, education, wildlife conservation, and health. Thirty-eight finalists were named and the final winners were determined by compiling the judges‘ overall rankings. The finalists will be recognized at the World Savers Awards ceremony on Sept. 23rd at the 2nd Annual Condé Nast Traveler World Savers Congress in New York City.
"These finalists are prime examples of how the world‘s hotels, airlines, cruise lines and tour operators can inspire their peers to improve our world," said Deputy Editor for Special Projects Dorinda Elliott. "The efforts by these World Savers, from building schools and furnishing much-needed medical supplies to restocking wildlife reserves and dispensing mirco-loans, are models for the entire travel industry.“

MSC Cruises, the fastest growing cruise line with the youngest fleet, has nine ships: MSC Poesia (third flagship of the "Musica" class), MSC Orchestra, MSC Musica, MSC Sinfonia, MSC Opera, MSC Armonia, MSC Lirica, MSC Melody, MSC Rhapsody, cruising in the Mediterranean year round and seasonally in Northern Europe, Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean, South America, Indian Ocean and South Africa. In the fall of 2008 and spring of 2009, MSC Fantasia and MSC Splendida, respectively, will be launched. These will be the largest ships ever built by a European ship owner. Then in the fall of 2009, MSC Magnifica, the fourth ship in the" Musica" class, will enter service. By the end of 2009, MSC Cruises will have the most modern fleet in the world with a total of 12 vessels.
