Title: AIS Sites
Post by: Phil on October 30, 2006, 01:40:36 PM
For all those people out there that like to see where a ship there are several AIS sites that report live positions of ships.

Some sites require you to subscribe some don't.

AISLive is no longer available without a major subscription. No more Free section.

Vessel tracker - http://www.vesseltracker.com/en/Home.html (http://www.vesseltracker.com/en/Home.html) Now has Panama Canal

Norway, AIS LIVE http://www.navcom.no/aislive/index.aspx (http://www.navcom.no/aislive/index.aspx)

San Francisco, AIS LIVE, FREE, Real Time http://www.boatingsf.com/ais_map.php (http://www.boatingsf.com/ais_map.php)

Sail.wx http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shiplocations.phtml (http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shiplocations.phtml)

Thanks to Joe for the information.

Phil,
This is what made me join up.
I have used AIS from the start.
Then they went greedy and wanted money to see the "live show" and then more greedy and restricted what you could see.
I lost Panama details all together until I noticed your link.
Many thanks...I have Panama back :bounce: :bounce:.
I thought I should join up as you have some great tips and yes a great forum.
Still missing New York harbour...do you have a link for this? :help:.
Thanks,
Pinky and Perky

Carolyn,
Many thanks for the information will give it a go.
Thought I had hit a dead end, never to see NY harbour again.
Yes AIS is good at giving "old" information, I once had the same screen shot of the English Channel for 1 week.
The ship I was following by this time was in the Mediterranean well on her way .
Emailed AIS..they said thanks for pointing it out...just a small problem

Cheers,
P & P.

P&P

AisLive (Free) changed so many of their links off the map that no longer are clickable. I have figured out how to get them back if you need an area that is shown on the AisLive map let me know and I will get it for you.

Phil,
Still missing New York harbour details that shows the container/ships berthed as well as some movements.
It used to be on the live AIS (free) like Panama, but got taken off for "pay only subscribers" I guess.
If you can get this on AIS live free for me that would be wonderful.
Thanks,
P & P. Cheers

New York (Staten Island) should be this link once you log in:

Let me know if this helps.

I am as happy as a pig in ****  :-[

Many thanks Phil.

Well considering that Fairplay who owns AIS has a long record of bringing online new items for a period that are free then they slowly phase out the free period and then it is gone all together. They used have a free email/list that was about shipping many years ago and it had the same results.

AIS costs about 1200 GBP a year to subscribe.

:help: :help: what can I use now  :help: :help:.

That is really bad news.
As a ships follower I use AIS often.

GBP 1200 p.a is really not on and is a lot to shell out.

The greed to make a profit spoils it for the humble enthusiast yet again .
May have to take up knitting then  :o :P.

There are some smaller AIS sites but they are specific to the port. I will try and dig them out.

GregR brought this to my attention the other day. It appears that the Carnival Magic has been transiting the canal the last couple of days according to AIS. In fact it the canal tug DPMcAuliffe.
When one brings up the track not only does it brings up the tugs track today but also the sea trials for the Carnival Magic off of Italy.

When I got the email the other day I thought this is really weird because Magic is currently being built and not due out till the summer. Then it is too big for the current canal.

It appears to be a blip in AIS software.

The site is called 'Digital-Seas'   One has to register, but it is a free site.   IT AIS, Vessel Tracking, Vessel Search, etc.  Good luck with it...

Here's one A.I.S. I have been using.    If you don't like VT's change, it's easier to use...
